Journey through the Great Rift Valley to arrive in the abundant plains of the Masai Mara.

One of the few places on the continent to spot the ‘Big Nine’, the Mara is home to lions, leopards, African buffalo, rhino, elephant, cheetah, giraffe, hippo and zebra. Travel on to a birder’s paradise – the freshwater Lake Navaisho – and a chance to see families of elephants in Amboseli, before exploring the flourishing volcanic terrain of Tsavo. Finish with some R&R on the historic coastline of the Indian Ocean.

Maasai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast, drive out of the city heading west for the famous Masai Mara. It's a scenic journey to reach the reserve, renowned for its abundance of wildlife roaming vast open grasslands. After refreshment, head straight out for a game drive.

Masai Mara National Reserve

The cool hours of dawn and dusk are the best time for game watching and the light is perfect for photographs. Look out for the Big Nine as you travel through the bush, also home to aardwolves, porcupines, baboons, and many species of antelope and birds.

During the time here, you might want to explore on foot, visit one of the Masai villages, take a hot-air balloon over the plains and enjoy sundowners at the lodge before a nocturnal game drive.

Lake Naivasha

Depart the reserve heading north-east for Nakuru and the great freshwater lake of Naivasha. Take a boat across the shallow waters to see hundreds of species of birds, including pelicans, kingfishers, Sacred Ibis, African Spoonbill and African Fish-Eagles, and a healthy hippo population.

Drive into a dramatic landscape shaped by volcanoes and subterranean aquifers to provide a lush and varied habitat for wildlife. As you explore the reserve, watch out for Nile crocodiles and hippos at the Mzima Springs, black rhino roaming the Tsavo, and the critically endangered Hirola antelope.

After returning to Nairobi, take the Standard Gauge Railway onwards to Mombasa and a night of relaxation. The Kenyan coast offers white sandy beaches - Diani Beach is our firm favourite - and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, alongside the historic town and forts to explore before the journey home.
